“You know you start out with your basic skills knowing how to handle a patient to eventually handling patients in a critical care setting.”

Upon completing the Associate Degree Program and passing the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, graduates have endless possibilities working as an RN.

Our program offers plenty of hands-on experience from highly trained and caring faculty.

[Christie M. Candelaria, EdD, RN, CCRN-K/Interim AND Program Chair]
“Most of our faculty members work in the community as nurse practitioners and so they bring with them their fresh experience into the lives of our students who are coming and are new to the nursing profession.

[Daisy Vargas/ Current South Texas College Student]
“We go to the hospitals and they tell the teacher, ‘you have a real good group of students, we would love to hire them, let us know when they’re done. We want you to work for us. It’s encouraging to know that you’ll have a job lined up for you as soon as you graduate.”

RN’s can work in hospitals, acute care, day-surgery centers, long term care centers, rehabilitation centers, schools of nursing, physicians’ offices, home health care agencies, and many other areas.

“It’s a profession that has many highways. You can do from working with children, to adults to patients with mental illnesses. There is a high demand for nursing.”

[Christie M. Candelaria, EdD, RN, CCRN-K/Interim AND Program Chair]
“Our Associate Degree Nursing Program is recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing, with commendation during their last visit. And, what makes it truly unique is the care and compassion that we give to our students as they come and go through the program because we’re all committed to their success.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual income of a nurse practicing in the United States is nearly thousand a year with salary ranges up to thousand a year.
